Taking Action. A Deep Dive

There are different treatment options for non-small cell lung cancer that may be combined, based on the stage of your cancer, your overall health and lung function, as well as certain traits of the cancer itself. Take the time to discuss the risks and benefits of different treatment options, as you work with your healthcare team to determine what’s best for you. As you navigate next steps, it’s important that you understand what to expect, including the potential side effects or adverse events of treatment (which can vary from person to person), and how you can be proactive in identifying and managing any issues early on by tracking and sharing symptoms with your healthcare team. What are the most common side effects both short-term and long-term? How long will they last? What action should you take? When should you call your doctor’s office? Your healthcare team may provide you with instructions or medication to help prevent some side effects. They may also modify your treatment plan or treatment dose based on your experiences so be sure to keep the lines of communication open.
